- The purpose of this highly respected journal is to support and stimulate interest in animal studies as an emerging area within the social sciences. To that end, SOCIETY AND ANIMALS publishes research that investigates the ways in which nonhuman animals figure in our lives. The focus is on the human experience and findings regarding nonhuman animal experience and behavior are secondary. Areas of interest include animals in research, animals in popular culture, wildlife and the environment, sociopolitical movements, public policy and law. The board of editors is composed of theologians, psychologists, anthropologists, sociologists, philosophers, ethologists and political scientists from institutions in North America, the United Kingdom and Europe (Katz).
