- The international JOURNAL OF URBAN DESIGN attempts to explore the many dimensions of urban design, which encompasses both architecture and planning and is considered vital to both fields of knowledge. This journal contains three to five articles per issue, a book review section and an occasional "Viewpoint" piece. Recent articles discuss the choice between shops and housing, the protection of parks and gardens and the regeneration of urban waterfronts. Although scholarly, this journal deals with the practice as well as the theory and research of urban design. Its broad scope includes urban history, sustainable development, preservation and property development (Katz).
